Influences, of course, travel in many directions—German Expressionism leaves its mark on Chinese works from the 1940s, some prints from the 1980s smack of modernism, while many contemporary artists explicitly look to the past—sometimes in unexpected …

Henri Matisse

Henri Matisse – Matisse (1869 – 1954) used colors like nobody else. Modern commercial art is heavily influenced by the way he constructed his paintings with seemingly simple, yet entirely brilliant, strokes. The soundtrack is “Lyric Waltz” by Dmitri Shostakovich (1906 – 1975). PS: check out my other channel “SundroidHD”: www.youtube.com or my website: www.shisun.net

Henri Matisse: Drawing with Scissors (Smart About Art)

Henri Matisse: Drawing with Scissors (Smart About Art)

Keesia and Henri Matisse have the same birthday—New Year’s Eve! That’s why she picks him for her artist report. She finds out that over his long career Matisse made paintings, sculpture, books, costumes, and her favorite—his cut-outs, or what Matisse called “drawing with scissors.” The report is filled with about 20 of Matisse’s masterpieces as well as artwork that Keesia has created in his “style” (cut-out leaves, drawings through windows, fauvist animals). As she follows Mati

Famous Artists: Top 10 Most Famous Artists in History

No two people will agree on the top ten most famous and influential artists, since every person has his or her own view of what type of painting is the most articulate. Every art lover sees each painting in their own way, so that any list is purely subjective. Here is a compilation that will cover some of the most :

1. Pablo Picasso is widely accepted as the most influential artist of his time, with a unique style and an ambitious attitude. It is widely believed that he surpassed the masters who came before him, and he defined the concept of art as it would be known.

2. The “Mona Lisa” secured Leonardo da Vinci as the creator of the painting that is more well-known than any other. Others have often attempted to imitate his style and stroke, with no success. He was an artist and a humanist.

3. Vincent van Gogh is one of the most famous names in any study of art. He suffered a great deal in his life, and his paintings reflect the pain with their personal look. He was a great influence on the painters of the twentieth century.

Leonardo Da Vinci: An Overview of the Life of Leonardo Da Vinci

The Da Vinci Code is all the rage these days, but what do people really know about the man? Here is an overview of the life of the amazing Leonardo da Vinci.

An Overview of the Life of Leonardo da Vinci

There are many different Renaissance painters to consider when thinking of this period in history, but none are as interesting and unusual as Leonardo da Vinci. An accomplished painter, da Vinci was also a talented scientist and inventor, vegetarian and even, it is said, the leader of a secret society. But which of the events of his life are true and which are exaggerations or even lies? It’s hard to tell truth from fiction, but there are some facts that are undisputed.

Leonardo da Vinci was born April 15, 1452 in Tuscany, Italy. His first job, in 1466, was as a studio boy, or garzone, to the leading painter in Florentine, Andrea Del Verrocchio. It took until 1478 for da Vinci to be seen as more than an apprentice, as that is when he was designated an independent master. His family life is a bit more difficult to figure out. It’s said that he was the son of a Florentine Notary or Craftsman named Piero, but his mother may have been a slave. At any rate, Leonardo did not grow up with his mother, who was married off to another man, so he lived with just his father Piero da Vinci.
